Our Story

Mission‑Driven.
Veteran‑Led. Regionally Focused.

Veterans Business Readiness of South Central Texas (Mission:ReadyTX) exists to close the gap between military service and entrepreneurial success—right here in Military City USA.

Our Mission

Preparing Veterans to Build, Grow, and Sustain Businesses

Mission:ReadyTX is a veteran-led nonprofit that prepares service members, veterans, Guard/Reserve, and military spouses across South Central Texas to start, grow, and scale businesses—through accessible coaching, training, and readiness for capital, contracts, and long-term success.

Our Vision

The Premier Veteran Business Readiness Hub in South Central Texas

We envision a South Central Texas where every veteran and military spouse who wants to build a business has direct access to the coaching, training, capital connections, and contracting pathways they need to succeed—and where veteran-owned businesses are recognized as an economic engine for the entire region.

Our Values

What We Stand For

Readiness

We believe every veteran entrepreneur deserves to enter the marketplace fully prepared—for capital, contracts, and competition. Not almost ready. Battle-ready.

Resilience

Veterans know how to adapt, overcome, and persist. We build programs around that strength—helping businesses endure market cycles, economic shifts, and growth challenges.

Community

No veteran entrepreneur should figure it out alone. VetReadyTX is built on the same principle as military service: team-first, mission-first, always.

Regional Impact

Our focus is South Central Texas. We are invested in this region's economic vitality and committed to building lasting local ecosystems—not just one-time interventions.

Accessibility

All VetReadyTX programs are no-cost or low-cost. We remove financial barriers so that every veteran and military spouse has an equal shot at entrepreneurial success.

Excellence

We hold ourselves to the same high standard veterans held in uniform—rigorous, accountable, and always improving in service of those we support.

Why VetReadyTX?

South Central Texas Deserves a Dedicated Veteran Business Hub

South Central Texas is one of the most veteran-dense regions in the country. With Joint Base San Antonio—the largest joint military installation in the Department of Defense—plus Fort Cavazos and multiple other installations, thousands of service members transition out of the military here every single year.

These men and women bring extraordinary leadership, discipline, and specialized skills. Many want to build businesses. But the pathway from military service to successful entrepreneurship is filled with gaps—in awareness, in preparation, in access to capital and contracts, and in targeted regional support.

Existing resources are scattered across agencies and organizations that weren't specifically designed for the scale or the specific needs of veteran entrepreneurs in this corridor. VetReadyTX was created to change that—to be the dedicated, veteran-first, regionally-focused hub this community has needed.

Thousands transition here annually

JBSA processes more military transitions than almost any installation in the country. Each represents a potential veteran entrepreneur.

No dedicated veteran business hub—until now

Existing resources were fragmented. VetReadyTX consolidates support into a true one-stop readiness center.

Regional corridor opportunity

Our service area spans San Antonio, Laredo, Del Rio, Victoria, and the entire South Central Texas corridor—representing millions in untapped veteran business potential.

Aligned with federal and regional priorities

VetReadyTX aligns with SBA, EDA, city, and county economic development goals—positioning us for cooperative agreements and grant partnerships.

Cris Medina

United States Air Force Veteran • Former San Antonio City Councilmember • Community Leader

Cris Medina is a United States Air Force officer and veteran with a deep commitment to serving the men and women who served our country. A San Antonio native and proud product of Military City USA, Cris has dedicated his post-service career to public service, economic development, and veteran empowerment.

As a former San Antonio City Councilmember representing District 7, Cris worked at the intersection of public policy, community investment, and small business development—building relationships with the City, County, UTSA, economic development agencies, and the regional business community. He understands the systems, the gaps, and the opportunities.

VetReadyTX is the culmination of that experience—a veteran-led organization born from firsthand knowledge of what transitioning service members need and what the South Central Texas region is capable of delivering. Cris founded VetReadyTX to build the resource hub he wishes had existed when he transitioned out of uniform.

Our Long-Term Vision

Working Toward an SBA Veterans Business Outreach Center

VetReadyTX was built from day one with a long-term vision: to serve as or host an SBA-funded Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) for the South Central Texas region. VBOCs are the SBA's flagship program for veteran entrepreneurship, providing outreach, training, and technical assistance across defined service areas.

Phase 1: Launch

Establish VetReadyTX as a trusted regional resource—building programs, partnerships, and a track record of veteran business impact.

Phase 2: Partner

Formalize cooperative agreements with UTSA, the SBA San Antonio District Office, the City, and regional economic development organizations.

Phase 3: VBOC Pursuit

Pursue SBA cooperative agreement to designate VetReadyTX or a hosted center as the official VBOC for South Central Texas.

Note: VetReadyTX is not yet a designated SBA Veterans Business Outreach Center. VBOC designation is a long-term organizational goal subject to SBA cooperative agreement processes and requirements. Nothing on this site should be construed as an official SBA endorsement or affiliation.
